Homemade nuggets

Dish: Starter

Nuggets are a classic at fast food chains, but the good news is that these chicken nuggets are very easy to make at home. They are healthier and free of preservatives and additives, very simple to make, and super crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside.
Chicken nuggets are made from minced chicken meat, which we can buy already processed or mince ourselves at home with the help of a mincer. They are then coated in batter and finally fried. We invite you to follow our step-by-step videos below, where we will explain in detail how to make homemade chicken nuggets.
Ingredients
- 1 kg / 2.2 lb minced chicken
- 100 g wheat flour / 3.5 oz. / 4 tablespoons (must be cold, place in the refrigerator before preparing the recipe)
- 30 g / 1 oz / 10 tablespoons cornstarch (must be cold too)
- 1 egg yolk (cold)
- 130 ml / 4.4 fl. oz. cold water (as cold as possible)
- 1 teaspoon salt for the batter mixture
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder for the chicken
- 1 teaspoon onion powder for the chicken
- 1 teaspoon ground pepper for the chicken
- 1 pinch of salt for the chicken
- All-purpose wheat flour for battering
How To Make It
Step 1: We start by seasoning our chicken nuggets. To do this, we add the chopped chicken, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper to a bowl and mix everything together thoroughly.
Step 2: Take a portion of the chicken and shape it into chicken nuggets as shown in the video. Then place the chicken nuggets on a flat surface covered with parchment paper (repeat this process until all the chicken is used up) and put them in the freezer for 2 hours.
Step 3: With about 10 minutes left before our chicken nuggets have been in the freezer for 2 hours, we start preparing our batter (we do this at this point because it needs to be very cold to coat the nuggets). To do this, add the flour, cornstarch, and water to a bowl and mix well with a whisk. Then add the egg yolk and continue mixing. Finally, add a pinch of salt and mix everything together (the mixture should be neither too light nor too thick). Set aside in the refrigerator.
Step 4: Take the chicken nuggets out of the freezer and coat them in flour, then dip them in the batter mixture, coating them well on all sides, remove and drain, then fry the chicken nuggets in a pot with plenty of oil over medium heat until golden brown. Remove the chicken nuggets from the heat, place them in a container lined with paper towels to remove excess oil, and serve.
Tips To Prepare It
It is important to keep the nuggets in the freezer for 2 hours so that they are easier to handle when dipping them in the batter mixture.
When frying them, do so at medium temperature so that they do not brown too quickly on the outside and remain raw on the inside.
It is important that the batter mixture is very cold before coating the chicken nuggets, as explained in the step-by-step instructions.
All the ingredients for the batter mixture must be cold, so keep them in the refrigerator for a while before preparing the recipe.
